In the Summer of 2016, the United Ways throughout Wisconsin, in partnership with 14 other states, published a report on the rise of the "working poor." What they found was that 42% of Wisconsin households are not earning enough to get by, the root cause of why we see poverty rising in not just Ashland and Bayfield Counties, but all around the country. Stagnant wages over the past three decades not only threaten family stability but also create a big drag on the whole local economy.

Executive Director, Charlene Mouille, will present the findings of their study and discuss what United Ways around the country are trying to do about it.

This is a follow up to the Leage of Women Voters of Ashland/Bayfield Counties' own study, The Impact of Economic Inequality in Ashland and Bayfield Counties, completed in May 2017.

This event is FREE and open to the public.
